WISE, Va. – In its final match before starting conference play, the Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team fell in four sets (25-19, 25-16, 27-29, 26-24) to UVa-Wise Tuesday night. The loss moves LMC's record to 3-10 on the season.

Set 1 – UVa-Wise started Tuesday's contest putting forth its best offensive performance of the match. As a team, the Cavaliers hit .394 on 33 attacks in the opening set. Lees-McRae was never really out of reach in the first set despite the hot-hitting Cavalier offense. Unfortunately for LMC, UVa-Wise scored five of the last seven points in the stanza to take an early 1-0 lead in the contest with a 25-19 triumph.

Set 2 – Facing an early 1-0 deficit in Tuesday's match, the Bobcats looked like they may even the match at a set a piece as they led 14-10 in the early stages of the second set. However, the Cavaliers took a timeout to regroup and they did just that. Following the timeout, UVa-Wise scored nine of the next 10 points to storm back in front of the Bobcats. That late surge proved too much for Lees-McRae as it dropped its second straight frame to the Cavaliers, 25-16.

Set 3 – The third set was quite possibly the most competitive frame of Tuesday's matchup. The score was tied at 12 different points throughout the frame, including at 22, 24, 25, 26 and 27. With the scoreboard reading 27-27, the Bobcats picked up back-to-back points thanks to a block from Kaden Hill and a kill from Logan Slusher to pick up their first set victory of the contest, 29-27.

Set 4 – In what proved to be the final set, it looked like the Bobcats would continue on their comeback mission as they led by as many as six points at 15-6. The Cavaliers would chip away at the deficit to eventually tie the score at 20. With that momentum they gained in erasing the LMC lead, the Cavaliers closed out the match with a 26-24 win in the fourth frame.

Stat Standouts – Even with the loss, the Bobcats had several players have solid statistical outings Tuesday. Ellissa Small (11), Lexi Zangari (10) and Slusher (12) all finished with double-figure kill numbers. Small also paced LMC with a trio of aces in the contest. Setting up the trio of Bobcat hitters was Megan Gallion who dished out 43 assists (10.75 a/s) on the night. Rounding out the stat leaders for the Bobcats was Hill as she led the team with two blocks to go along with six kills and a .545 hitting percentage.

Next Up – With the impending effects of Hurricane Florence set to hit both North and South Carolina this weekend, the Bobcats have already postponed their two home matches this weekend against Mount Olive and Belmont Abbey. The next time Lees-McRae is slated to hit the court is September 22 when it hosts Barton at Williams Gymnasium.
