BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team fell in three sets to Belmont Abbey (25-13, 25-16, 25-20) Tuesday night in Conference Carolinas action at Williams Gymnasium.
Set 1 – The Bobcats struggled to get their offense clicking in their opening set of Tuesday's match. LMC committed more attack errors than it had kills in the opening stanza. Lauren Arnold provided the bulk of the offense for Lees-McRae with three kills on three attacks. Despite Arnold's best efforts, the Crusaders went on to win the opening frame, 25-13.
Set 2 – Belmont Abbey maintained its momentum from the first set into the second. The Crusaders began the frame on a 7-0 run to give themselves an early cushion to work with. LMC would claw back to get the deficit back down to four points thanks to a Kaci Thornton kill to make it 12-8. However, the Crusaders got things clicking again and ended up winning the set, 25-16.
Set 3 – The third and final frame of the evening was a very fast paced frame with not a lot of long rallies. Both teams put forth their best efforts offensively in the third in terms of hitting percentage. Ellissa Small paced the Bobcat attack collecting four kills on 10 attacks. Even with the offensive outburst by Small, the Crusaders maintained a steady lead on LMC on their way to a 25-20 set victory.
Next Up – LMC, now 3-15 overall and 0-4 in league play, will return to the court Friday night when it hosts North Greenville. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
