WILSON, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team fell in three sets to Barton College (25-18, 25-18, 25-16) Friday night in Conference Carolinas action. The loss pushes LMC's record to 7-21 overall and 3-10 in league play this season.
Set 1 – Both teams struggled a bit to get their respective offenses going Friday as neither squad hit above .125 in the frame. The difference in the opening stanza proved to be when the Bulldogs rattled off a 7-2 run to change the score from 10-10 to 17-12. That five-point deficit proved too large for LMC to overcome as the Bulldogs ended up winning the first frame, 25-18.
Set 2 – After a slow start in the first, Barton's offense started to click in the second. The Bulldogs totaled 18 of their eventual 25 points in the second set from kills on their way to a 25-18 win over LMC. Lees-McRae did put together its best offensive set of the match in the second hitting .200 on 30 attacks with nine kills.
Set 3 – In what turned out to be the final set of Friday's match, the Bulldogs put together a complete effort to finish off the sweep. Barton logged six total blocks in the third and hit .500 on 22 attacks on its way to a 25-16 set win.
Stat Standouts – One of the highlights for the Bobcats Friday was their performance from the service line as they totaled eight aces in the three sets. Kaci Thornton totaled five of those aces herself, and she also led the team with five kills. Defensively, Allie Cunningham paced LMC with a 13-dig performance.
Next Up – LMC will close out its regular season Saturday afternoon with a trip to Mount Olive for another league matchup. First serve between the Trojans and Bobcats is scheduled for 3 p.m.
