BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball program released its 2019 schedule Thursday afternoon. The Bobcats are set to play 26 matches this fall with nine set to be played at Williams Gymnasium.
Lees-McRae will begin its 2019 campaign with back-to-back non-conference tournaments. First, the Bobcats will head to Huntsville, Alabama on September 6-7 where they will take on host Alabama Huntsville, Trevecca Nazarene, Harding and Montevallo. Following that trip, Lees-McRae will then head to St. Augustine, Florida on September 13-14 to take on Embry-Riddle, West Georgia, Walsh and host school Flagler.
Following those two lengthy trips, the Bobcats will finally make their 2019 home debut on September 21 when they host Elizabeth City State. Three days later on September 24, UVa-Wise will make the trip to the High Country to close out Lees-McRae's first home stand of the season. Closing out the month of September for the Bobcats will be a pair of road Conference Carolinas matches at Mount Olive (Sept. 27) and at Belmont Abbey (Sept. 28).
After playing 10 of their first 12 matches away from Banner Elk, the Bobcats will play five of their eight matches in October at home. Lees-McRae will play host to King (Oct. 5), North Greenville (Oct. 18), Southern Wesleyan (Oct. 19), Erskine (Oct. 25) and Emmanuel (Oct. 26) with trips to North Greenville (Oct. 1), Chowan (Oct. 11) and Barton (Oct. 12) mixed in. The match on October 5 against King will be the team's homecoming match, while the tilt on October 18 against North Greenville will be the squad's Dig Pink and Teal match.
The final month of Lees-McRae's regular season will begin with a pair of home matches against league foes Converse and Limestone on Nov. 1-2. The matchup against Limestone will be the team's senior day. The team's final four matches will be on the road as it will travel to Southern Wesleyan (Nov. 6), Erskine (Nov. 8), Emmanuel (Nov. 9) and King (Nov. 16) to wrap up the regular season slate.
The 2019 Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Tournament will begin on November 19 at the campus sites of the top two teams in the North and South Division. The four winners in the quarterfinal round will advance to the semifinals and perhaps the championship match on November 22 and 23, respectively. Those final two rounds will be played at the highest remaining seed following the quarterfinal round. The winner of the tournament will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
