HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to Alabama Huntsville (25-17, 25-15, 25-19) and Trevecca Nazarene (25-18, 23-25, 25-13, 25-16) Friday in its first action of the 2019 season.

Alabama Huntsville Recap - Early in the first set, the Bobcats were locked in a tight affair with the score 12-10 in favor of the Chargers. A kill by Isabella Barnes sparked six straight points for the Chargers as they pulled away to take the point. This scenario would repeat itself two more times in route to a victory for Alabama Huntsville. They were led by Isabella Barnes, Ali Lowe, and Abby Brooks who had 10, eight and seven kills, respectively.

Kaitlyn Arentz had a team high 18 digs for the Bobcats while making her first ever collegiate appearance, while Erica Slinde and Megan Serowski accounted for 24 of Lees-McRae's 27 assists. Lees-McRae were able to lead a balanced attack with six players collecting at least four kills.

Along with Arentz, six other freshmen for Lees-McRae saw their first game action today against the Chargers. Those players would include Megan Serowski, Mahealani Chun, Lauren Xayavong, Anaya Govindji, Abby Wordsworth, and Olivia Ney.

Trevecca Nazarene Recap - After dropping the first set, the Bobcats roared back to take the second 25-23 on the back of a 58% attack rate. Unfortunately for Lees-McRae, they would not have such a result in the following sets, falling 3-1 to Trevecca Nazarene. The Bobcats were led by Olivia Ney who had eight kills and Kaitlyn Arentz who followed up her strong game one performance with 14 digs.

Trevecca Nazarene were led by Ellie Buffler with 14 kills. The Trojans also supplied a strong supporting cast with five other student-athletes with six kills or more, ending the match with a .289 attack percentage.

Next Up - LMC will close out its first weekend of regular season action Saturday when it takes on Harding and Montevallo tomorrow in Huntsville. The first serves for Saturday's matches are set for 10 a.m. and noon, respectively.
