BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team will be back in action this weekend with a pair of Conference Carolinas matches on the road. First, the Bobcats will hit the road to take on Chowan Friday before closing out their trip with a matchup against Barton on Saturday. Friday's match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. first serve and Saturday's is set to get started on 2 p.m.
Last Time Out – The Bobcats knocked off King University in five sets (25-18, 25-21, 18-25, 23-25, 15-11) last Saturday at Williams Gymnasium. With the win, Lees-McRae improved to 3-0 on its home floor and 4-10 overall to go along with a 2-2 record in league action.
Bobcats on the Block – Lees-McRae has nearly matched its conference win total from all of 2018 (3) already in 2019. A major reason for the improved play in league play has been the team's work on the block. Collectively, the Bobcats are averaging 2.29 blocks per set against Conference Carolinas schools, which is up nearly a full block (1.39) from the team's average block per frame number last season.
Last trip for a while – After the two matches on the road this weekend, the Bobcats will return home for six straight home matches against conference foes. Lees-McRae has started to generate quite a home court advantage lately as it has won seven of its last nine matches played at Williams Gymnasium.
About the Opponents – Chowan, which is in its first year as a member of Conference Carolinas in women's volleyball, will come into Friday's match with a record of 3-8 overall and 1-4 in league play. All three of CU's victories have come at home, including a four-set win over Southern Wesleyan late last month.
Barton, meanwhile, is 5-6 overall and 2-3 in conference action after sweeping Chowan on Wednesday at home. The Bulldogs have one of the top offensive players in the conference on their squad in Kaytlin Elkins. Elkins ranks second in the league with 189 kills ranking only behind Converse's Brittany Tepedino who has 218.
Series Histories vs. Opponents – The Bobcats have enjoyed success historically against both Chowan and Barton. Lees-McRae has won both matches against Chowan with the last being in 2016. As for the series against Barton, Lees-McRae is 37-12 all-time against the Bulldogs. Barton, however, has won the last six meetings.
