MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team won on Friday night at Chowan in four sets (26-24, 20-25, 25-12, 25-17) in Murfreesboro.
First Set – The Bobcats prevailed in a back and forth first set, 26-24. The set was decided at the very end after Chowan tied the match at 24-24. Lees-McRae pulled ahead for the win following a Chowan service error and a huge block by Hanna Steckler.
Second Set – The second was the only frame that Chowan took during the match. The Bobcats tied the set at 8-8 but fell behind over the next few points and were not able to recover as Chowan won, 20-25.
Third Set – Lees-McRae came out roaring in the third, getting out to a 19-8 lead. Caitlin Smirne led the way with 6 kills and Olivia Ney added 3 of her own. Megan Gallion supplied 7 assists to help bolster the Bobcat attack. The set was decided on a Chowan error and Lees-McRae won 25-12.
Fourth Set - The Final set went down in a similar fashion as the third as the Bobcats got out to a 17-9 lead. Hanna Steckler put the final nail in the coffin with her 6th kill of the game to give the Bobcats a 25-17 win.
Next Up – The Bobcats will return to action this Saturday when they face Barton on the road. First serve between the Bobcats and Bulldogs is set for 2 p.m.
