WILSON, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team fell on Saturday afternoon at Barton in three sets (18-25, 22-25, 26-28) in Wilson.
First Set – The Bobcats fell behind early in the set, trailing 2-6 through the first eight points. The Bobcats rebounded and would come as close as 18-23, however, the Bulldogs pulled away late to win the first frame.
Second Set – Barton again came out firing and built and early lead. Lees-McRae would have a run of their own to tie the match at 20 and forcing a Barton timeout. The final points were back and forth but the Bobcats were plagued by errors and lost 22-25.
Third Set – The third and final set proved to be the most competitive of the match. Again, the Bobcats and Bulldogs were locked in a tight battle with the set coming down to the final few points. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, errors would again be the difference as Barton walked away with the set and match.
Stat Standouts – Lees-McRae were led by Abby Wordsworth (10 kills), Olivia Ney (6 kills), and Lex Zangari (6 kills). Megan Gallion (16 assists) and Erica Slinde (11 assists) led the team in assists while Kaitlyn Arentz (21 digs) turned in one of her best performances of the year.
Next Up – The Bobcats will return to action next Friday when they face North Greenville at home. First serve between the Bobcats and Crusaders is set for 7 p.m. from Williams Gymnasium.
