BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team kept things rolling Friday night at Williams Gymnasium as it downed Erskine in three sets (25-22, 25-15, 25-23) to remain unbeaten on its home floor. The Bobcats improved to 8-11 overall and 6-3 in Conference Carolinas action with the victory.
Set 1 – Lees-McRae started Friday's match well as it scored eight of the first 11 points of the frame. Erskine, however, battled back to get within one point at 11-10 before eventually tying the score at 15. A couple points later with the score knotted at 16, the Bobcats picked up back-to-back points and never trailed after that as they went on to win the first, 25-22.
Set 2 – The second set proved to be the most lopsided of the three-set affair. The Bobcats got the edge on the Flying Fleet early and never looked back winning the second, 25-15. Lees-McRae held the advantage in nearly every statistical category in the set, including an impressive .370 to .036 difference in attack percentage. The hot-hitting Bobcats shared the wealth as well as five different players picked up at least one kill in the frame.
Set 3 – Lees-McRae and Erskine played its most tightly contested set of the match in the third. The score was tied at 10 different points in the stanza. Neither team seemed to have its offense clicking as both squads committed over 10 attack errors. With the offense scuffling a bit, the Bobcats used four key blocks in the third to persevere and win the set and match, 25-23.
Stat Standouts – Lex Zangari led the way for Lees-McRae on Friday notching 10 kills on 19 attacks with just one error for a .474 hitting percentage to go along with four block assists. The duo of Megan Gallion and Megan Serowski combined to dish out 33 assists in the victory. Defensively, Kaitlyn Arentz paced LMC with 11 digs on the night.
Next Up – The Bobcats will be back in action on Saturday when they play host to Emmanuel College in another Conference Carolinas match. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
