Bobcats hit the road for three matches this week

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team will be back in action this week with three road matches against Conference Carolinas opponents. First, the Bobcats will travel to Southern Wesleyan on Wednesday before traveling to Erskine on Friday and Emmanuel on Saturday. Wednesday's and Friday's matches will begin at 7 p.m., while Saturday's contest is scheduled to get underway at noon.

Last Time Out – Lees-McRae picked up a key 3-1 victory against Limestone last Saturday at Williams Gymnasium. The victory moves Lees-McRae's record to 10-12 overall and 8-4 within the conference this season.

Strong Streak – The Bobcats have been playing their best volleyball lately. Over its last 10 matches, LMC sports a record of 7-3. Only Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas has a better record over its last 10 matches with a 9-1 record.

Postseason Push – Thanks to its strong showing lately, Lees-McRae has put itself in a good position to not only make the upcoming Conference Carolinas women's volleyball tournament but also perhaps host a quarterfinal match at Williams Gymnasium. If that were to happen, the team, which went 8-1 at home this fall, would play its first home postseason match since 2014.

About the Opponents – Southern Wesleyan comes into Wednesday's match with Lees-McRae with an overall record of 2-21 and 0-12 in league play. Olivia Johnson has been SWU's top player this season as she leads the team in kills (211) and points scored (220.5).

Erskine is currently sitting just outside the conference tournament field entering this week's action. The Flying Fleet are 10-17 overall and 4-7 in conference play. The strength of Erskine's team has been its balanced offense. Five different players have eclipsed the 100-kill mark in 2019 with Katy Torgerson leading the way with 232 kills.

Finally, Emmanuel is just one game out of first place in the league entering the home stretch of the regular season. The Lions are 13-11 overall and 9-2 within the Conference Carolinas circuit. Emmanuel has dropped just one conference match since falling to Limestone in its conference opener at Limestone in late September.

Series Histories vs. Opponents – The Bobcats have already faced off against their three opponents this week earlier this season. Lees-McRae knocked off SWU and Erskine but fell to Emmanuel in home matches last month. LMC is 2-4 all-time against Southern Wesleyan, 11-9 versus Erskine and 3-4 against Emmanuel.
