Bobcats Have Success In Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG, SC--Lees-McRae's Cross Country teams competed in the 23rd annual Eye Opener Invitational this past Saturday in Spartanburg, SC, and came away with a quality showing. The women's team finished 2nd out of 24 teams.

The women were led by freshmen Dana Lindholm (Weaverville, NC) and Carla Swart (Buford, GA). Lindholm ran a personal best time of 19:55 over the 5k (3.1 mile course) and finished 8th overall, while Swart ran 20:35 and finished 18th out of 181 runners.

Ashley May (Chilhowie, VA) improved on her 5k time with a mark of 20:43, a 47 second improvement from last week's race.

Senior Casey Willis (Vale, NC) had another big improvement as she went from 22:20 last week to 21:35 this week.

"I thought we overcame some adversities this weekend and ran as a team," said Coach Craig McPhail. "We are getting better each day and I am excited about our season."

The Bobcats will rest up and train for the next two weeks before they are back in action Friday Sept. 22nd at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invite.
