Lees-McRae College Women's Cross Country Team Named All-Academic

The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Thursday that Lees-McRae College and 91 other women's programs are Division II All-Academic Teams for the 2006 cross country season.

This is the Bobcats fifth straight year of achieving this honor. The Bobcats capped off a great season with a runner-up finish in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference Championship this fall. They finished 6th in the NCAA DII Southeast Region, while freshman Dana Lindholm (Weaverville, NC) qualified for the National Championships in Pensacola, FL.

In the classroom, the Bobcats had a cumulative grade-point average of 3.560. For schools to qualify as an All-Academic Team, the student-athletes on their NCAA squad list must have a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Lees-McRae's cross country team consisted of Lindholm, Ashley May, Claire Weeks, Casey Willis, Gina Valenti, Dianne Szpak, Karyn Bragman, Carla Swart, and Jenny Hurd.

The University of Tampa had the highest team GPA of the All-Academic Teams with a cumulative 3.774.

Adams State College was named the Division II All-Academic Women's Cross Country Team of the Year, while Western State College was named the Division II All-Academic Men's Cross Country Team of the Year. For more information, see www.ustfccca.org.
