CHARLESTON, S.C.- The Lees-McRae's women's cross country team continued to improve with a second place finish this weekend at The Citadel Invitational in Charleston, S.C. The Bobcats finished second in the 14-team race behind NAIA power Milligan College (Milligan, Tenn.).
Leading the way for the Lady Bobcats was junior Dana Lindholm (Weaverville, N.C.) as she finished eighth in a time of 20:00 over the 3.1 mile course. Junior Gina Valenti (Washington, N.C.) was second on the team in a time of 20:34 and sophomore Kira Shoemaker (Atlanta, GA) finished third on the team and 19th overall in a time of 20:40. April Harris (Jonesville, Va.) was 24th and Demarea Colson (Chesapeake, Va.) was 26th overall to round out the Bobcats' top five.
"We are getting there," said head coach Craig McPhail. "With each race we are starting to find our confidence in our abilities and realizing what we can do. "Once we can get everyone together and run like we train I think our results will continue to get better, especially when we need them to be, at the end of the season."
Next up for the Bobcats will be a trip to Newton, N.C. for the Lenior-Rhyne Invitational this Friday at Southside Park at 5 p.m.
Lees-McRae is ranked fourth in the NCAA DII Southeast Regional Polls.
