BOONE, N.C. - The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats finished 16 out of 26 teams in a combined field of Division I and Division II teams at the Blue Ridge Open Cross Country 5k Race at Appalachian State University.
In the two races, the Gold event and the Open event the Bobcats, the Bobcats ran well. In the Gold event, the Bobcats had six runners, and in the Open event, the Bobcats had two runners compete.
The Lady Bobcats were led by Carla Swart (Buford, Ga.) who ran 19:44 and finished 73rd overall in the Gold event. The time was a season best for Swart.
Kira Shoemaker (Aiken, S.C.) also ran a season best at 19:57 and finished 92nd. Gina Valenti (Washington, N.C.) ran 19:56 (95th), Dana Lindholm (Weaverville, N.C.) a 20:05 (105th), April Harris (Jonesville, Va.) a 20:18 (117th) and Demarea Colson (Chesapeake, Va.) ran 21:44 (172nd) to round out the rest of the Lady Bobcat runners. There were 194 total runners.
In the Open event, Jenny Hurd (Westfield, N.C.) ran 21:40 (30th) and Karyn Bragman (Clayton, N.C.) ran 23:59 (56th). There were 69 runners in the Open event.
"We ran well as a group and really knocked a lot of time off," head coach Craig McPhail said. "So, we are where I thought we could be as we get ready for the Conference Carolinas meet and for the NCAA Southeast Regional meet."
The Lady Bobcats' next race is the conference meet at Belmont Abbey College on Saturday, October 25th.
