Lady Bobcats Place Four on USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats women's cross country team placed four ladies on the 2008 USTFCCCA All-Academic Individual Team on their way to earning an All-Academic Team honors with their 3.320 team grade point average.

The Lady Bobcats are one of four teams from the Conference Carolinas earning the award and missed the top spot in the conference by two hundredths of a point.

Ashley May, a junior from Chilhowie, Va. who majors in pre-health; Kira Shoemaker, a sophomore from Aiken, S.C. who majors in art; Carla Swart, a junior from Buford, Ga. who majors in physical education; and Gina Valenti, who is from Washington, N.C. and majors in athletic training, all earned All-Academic Individual honors.

"This is an exclamation point to a wonderful season for these young women," head coach Craig McPhail said. "They have done a great job of being role model student-athletes here at Lees-McRae."

The team finished first in the Conference Carolinas Meet and first in the NCAA Southeast Region Meet to earn a trip to the NCAA Div II National Meet. At nationals the team finished 23rd.
