Lady Bobcats Look to Continue the Tradition: Conference Coaches Vote Lees-McRae Number One

BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats women's cross country team looks to repeat as Conference Carolinas Champions, Southeast Region Champions and earn a bid to the NCAA National Meet in 2009.

For the Lady Bobcats to continue their success, it will ride on the shoulders of their seniors. The Lady Bobcat seniors Ashley May (Chilhowie, Va.), April Harris (Jonesville, Va.) Dana Lindholm (Weaverville, N.C.), Gina Valenti (Washington, N.C.), Kira Shomaker (Aiken, S.C.) and Carla Swart (Buford, Ga.) has finished in the top two of the conference in their three previous years and won the NCAA Southeast Region in the past two years.

The Lady Bobcat newcomers are transfer Hannah Henderson (Canvas, W. Va.) and freshmen (Lindsey Bush (Lenior, N.C.) and Cinthi Lehner (Greenville, S.C.) will look to add the program's ninth title in 12 years.


"Coach Cason and I hope to give these seniors a year to remember and introduce our newcomers to the tradition we have created here in Banner Elk," Assistant Coach and Athletic Director Craig McPhail said.

The Lady Bobcats are also ranked first in the Southeast Region according to the USTFCCCA.
