BOONE, N.C. --- Hannah Henderson (Canvas, W. Va.) turned in a 13th place finish to pace the Lees-McRae College women's cross country team in the Blue Ridge Open on Friday in Boone, N.C.
Henderson's 20:14.3 placed her just outside the top ten against some of the top runners from a number of NCAA Division I programs in the Open division. Heather Peterman (Buford, Ga.) and Crystal Fischer (Greer, S.C.) rounded out the field for the Lady Bobcats, finishing 42nd and 43rd respectively with times of 22:46.4 and 22:47.4 to close out the LMC scoring.
In the men's competition, Craig Simpkins (Boiling Springs, N.C.) led the Bobcats with a 26:21.8 time, registering a 61st place finish to guide the men to a 13th place finish out of 18 tough squads. The Bobcats finished first among NCAA Division II schools, and just ahead of Georgia State (NCAA I) and Lenoir-Rhyne University.
Sondre Thorbergsen (Tranoy, Norway) crossed the finish line second for the Lees-McRae men in 80th place with a time of 26:41.4; Jared Lupton (Nampa, Idaho), Austin High (Chesnee, S.C.), and Will McCoy (Southern Pines, N.C.) rounded out the top five performers for the Bobcats. Lupton (28:04.0/128), High (28:21.9/132), and McCoy (28:55.2/140) each turned in sub 29-minute times in the 8k race. Jordan Gillespie (Fries, Va.) wrapped up the Lees-McRae finishers in the Blue Ridge Open Gold Division race with a 30:19.3 pace, placing him 151st overall.
The Bobcats hit the trail again on October 23, traveling to Lenoir, N.C. for the Lenoir Rhyne Invitational.
