BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae College men's and women's cross country teams are preparing for the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Cross Country Championships. The Bobcat women's team enters the event on the heels of a fourth place finish at the Conference Carolinas Championships.
Senior Hannah Henderson (Canvas, W.V.) paced the squad with a 14th-place finish to earn a spot on the all-conference third team. Kira Shoemaker (Aiken, S.C.) also looks to build on her success at the conference event following a 17th-place showing.
The men's team enters this weekend ranked seventh in the Southeast Region, paced by an outstanding season from junior Craig Simpkins (Boiling Springs, S.C.). Simpkins enters the race coming off a career-best and school-record sixth place finish at the Conference Carolinas Championships, earning a spot on the all-conference second team with a time of 25:19. The junior harrier paced the squad to a third-place showing, as LMC finished behind seventh-ranked Queens University of Charlotte and Mount Olive College.
The Bobcats will hit the trails on November 20, traveling to Charlotte, N.C. to compete in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championships, which are being hosted by Queens.
