Cross Country turns in strong showing at the Bulldog Stampede Saturday

WINGATE, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College cross country programs turned in strong performances Saturday morning at Wingate University's Bulldog Stampede. The men's team finished sixth among 15 teams, while the women's squad placed 15th out of 19 schools.

The top individual performance for the Bobcats came from reigning Conference Carolinas Men's Runner of the Week Austin Thompson. Thompson finished 18th among 122 runners in the men's race with a time of 34:47.37. In addition to Thompson's performance, the Bobcats had six other runners place in the top half of the 122 times Saturday.

Out of the 132 runners competing in the women's race, Lees-McRae's top finish came from Jordyn Halvorsen. Halvorsen, who has logged the top time from the women's team in each race so far this season, finished 68th with a time of 27:12.69.

After two consecutive weeks of competition, the Bobcats will have a week off before their next race on Oct. 7 when they travel to Greenville, South Carolina to take part in the Gene Mullin Invitational.
