Lees-McRae Head Cross Country/Track & Field Coach Ley Fletcher announced the hiring of Tydarius Floyd as the Associate Head Track & Field Coach. Floyd comes to Banner Elk from Louisburg College where he oversaw sprints, hurdles, jumps, and the program's strength and conditioning coordinator in Louisburg, North Carolina.
"Ty brings a great deal of professionalism and youth to our program", said Fletcher. "His knowledge and love of the sport has helped Ty learn a great deal of knowledge of most all track and field event areas across the sport. Ty also having great relationships with high school coaches in the states of North Carolina and South Carolina makes him a strong recruiter in the Southeast region. I am excited to see Ty grow and bring our track and field teams to a very highly competitive level."
Prior to becoming an assistant coach at Louisburg, Floyd was a standout athlete at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina where he was the captain of the 2021-22 men's track and field team and two-time Sun Belt Conference All-Conference Third Team. At Coastal Carolina, Floyd was a member of the spring 2020 Dean's List and a member of the National Technical Honor Society and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. In 2022, Floyd also competed at the NCAA East Preliminaries in both the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay events.
During his time at Coastal Carolina, Floyd served as a Volunteer Assistant Coach while specializing in sprints, hurdles, and jumps. Floyd received his bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Coastal Carolina this past May.
In addition to his collegiate career, Floyd was the 2016 USATF Junior Indoor National Champion in 400-meter dash and was the AAU Junior Outdoor National Champion in the 4x100m relay in 2017.
