The Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats hosted #7 Limestone College
Lady Saints in Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference action
Saturday afternoon, falling 25-7. The loss drops the Lady Bobcats
record to 1-11, (0-6 CVAC) while the Lady Saints improve to a
league leading 6-1, (10-2 overall).
Katie Ilott opened the scoring, putting the visitors on the
board at 26:43 of the first half. The Lady Bobcats responded 1:41
later with a goal from Brittany Dabkowski only to have the Lady
Saints gain a two goal cushion off goals from Ilott and Summer
Ferraro. Marjie Lesser got one back for the Lady Bobcats with
19:39 remaining before the nationally ranked Lady Saints turned
their game up a notch to end the half on a 12-0 run.
After the Lady Saints scored the first two of the second half,
the determined Lady Bobcats clawed their way back scoring three of
the next four goals, all from Laura Hawthorne. Unfortunately, the
depth of the experienced Lady Saints, a 2006 Final Four
participant, answered back with a 7-0 run. Dabkowski and Lesser
each added another goal for the Lady Bobcats to end the game 25-7
for the visitors.
Ilott led the Lady Saints attack with eight points, scoring four
and assisting on four. Melissa Howard and Aricka Piersma each
picked up five points in the win, with Howard scoring twice and
Piersma picking up four assists. Terri George picked up a hat
trick and as assist while Lauryn Wise also chipped in four points,
finding the back of the net for all four. Jessica Green also
registered a hat trick, while Lauren Askerberg, Shea Farrell, and
Marissa Pesce all added a pair of goals. Ferraro and Danielle
Tosky each chipped in singles to round out the scoring for
Limestone.
Hawthorne, (pictured top left), led the Lady Bobcats with a hat
trick and as assist for a four point afternoon. Dabkowski and
Lesser each added a pair of goals and an assist.
The Lady Bobcats will return to CVAC action hosting Belmont
Abbey Wednesday evening at 6:00pm. Abbey is coach by former men's
lacrosse player and Lady Bobcats coach Shaun Williamson '02.
