Roemeoville, IL--In their first match of the season the Bobcats
fell to Lewis University in Romeoville, IL 3-0 (18-30, 15-30,
28-30).
In their first of a three match road trip to Illinois, the
Bobcats, sporting ten freshman on the squad, faced the challenge of
not only inexperience but also playing away from home.
In the first game the Bobcats got behind early and were not able
to recover, falling 18-30. In the second game the youthful squad
faired no better going down 15-30.
In the third game the Bobcats showed some tenacity, battling
Lewis thoughout the game before succumbing 28-30.
Freshman Colin
Kelly (Orlando, FL) led the Bobcats with 12 kills and four
digs. Freshman co-captain Kyle
Gauger (Penfield, NY) added five digs, while teammate Chad
Mercado (Orlando, FL) chipped in four in the contest.
"With 11 new players on the team, our inexperience reared its
head tonight. We knew this would be a season where we have to learn
and grow every point, every game, every match. The key is to make
changes and grow from every experience we have," said Coach Jamie
Petrik.
The team will compete against Loyala University in Chicago, IL
at 7:00pm Saturday evening.
