Banner Elk, NC--The Lees-McRae Bobcats hosted Eastern Mennonite
Royals in men's volleyball action at Williams Gymnasium Friday
evening, dropping their second match of the year to the Royals
3-1. EMU climbs to 10-7 on the year while the Bobcats slide to
1-9.
The Bobcats clawed their way through game one, finally falling
26-30 to the Royals. The Royals continued their winning ways,
dominating LMC 18-30 in the second game. However, the Bobcats once
again showed resilience, forcing the match into a fourth game when
they defeated EMU 30-25 in game three.
The fourth and final game of the match proved to be another
battle, with the two teams volleying to a 30-28 final in the Royals
favor.
Freshman Colin Kelly (Orlando, FL) led the Bobcats with 16 kills
and seven service aces while Robert Ritchie (Hollywood, FL) added
nine kills and two block assists. Shane Holderby (Virginia Beach,
VA), playing setter, put up 48 assists and three block assists in
the effort. Ryan Black (Escondido, CA), the big man at the net,
threw down seven kills plus had one block solo and four block
assists for the four game match.
Next up for the Bobcats is the Mt. Olive Tournament in Mt.
Olive, NC where they will play three games from February 29-March 1
competing against Mt. Olive, Warner Southern, and York.
