Due West, SC--Tuesday afternoon the Lees-McRae Bobcats charged
over host school Erskine College 8-1 in Conference Carolinas men's
tennis action. The Bobcats, after falling to #16 ranked Lander
University the day before, regrouped to turn out a solid
performance against the Fleet, allowing them only one point. The
Bobcats are now 8-6 overall and 3-1 in league play while the Fleet
falls to 1-10 overall (1-4 conference).
At #1 singles, freshman Nandor Solymosi (Drebecen, Hungary) took
control of his match defeating Fabio Ciarrucchi 6-0, 6-1. Shaun
Sumner (Burlington, NC) played his first match of the year at the
two slot outstroking his opponent Simeon Harrar to take the 6-0,
6-3 win. With the victory Sumner's winning streak increases to
four.
Junior Alek Mojski (Berlin, Germany) and freshman Travis VanHoy
(Union Grove, NC) both won easily at the three and four positions
over Jacob Gregory and Johnny Holland respectively. At the five,
the Fleet's Ryan Miller took the only point for the match in a
tight 7-6(5), 7-5 contest over Romulus Teague (Hickory, NC). Blair
Propert (Gold Coast, Australia) took the win for the Bobcats over
Aaron Gregory.
The duo of Sumner/Solymosi did not give up a point in their 8-0
victory in #1 doubles over J. Gregory/Holland. Mojski/Teague
handled Miller/Ciarrucchi 8-3 while Paul Muenow(Fort Mill,
SC)/VanHoy outlasted the attack by Harrar/A.Gregory to complete the
doubles sweep.
On Friday, March 21 the Bobcats will travel to Greenville, TN to
face #37 Tusculum College.
