BANNER ELK, NC - The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats women's lacrosse
hosted Dowling College at Tate Field Tuesday afternoon, falling to
the Golden Lions 22-9 in non-conference action. Dowling improves
to 3-0 with the win while the Lady Bobcats slip to 0-8 this
season.
Stephanie Cotter put the visitors on the board first just over
three minutes into the game. Lady Bobcats freshman Desiree Cox
(Hendersonville, TN) responded for the home side, burying her 27th
of the season on a nice give and go with classmate Ellie Psillas
(Hagerstown, MD). Kelly Cefalu regained the lead for the Golden
Lions at 22:51 before Psillas knotted the first of two on the day
for her to tie the score for the second time at 22:00. Cefalu and
Vanessa Moreira scored back to back goals thirty seconds apart for
their first multi goal lead but once again the Lady Bobcats would
respond with Cox sniping her 28th on a beautiful individual effort
to draw the home side to within one. The Golden Lions would then
close the half on an 8-0 run to coast into halftime with a
comfortable 12-3 lead with Cefalu completing a first half hat trick
at 1:01.
The second half saw the Lady Bobcats get on the board first
however a pair of goals by Samantha Messineo and a single by
Brianna Falese halted any thoughts Lees-McRae may have had about
stealing the momentum. The resilient and youthful Lady Bobcats
would not quit, rattling off four straight goals to get themselves
back into things. Unfortunately, the Golden Lions would do one
better and go on a 5-0 run to win their third straight.
Messineo led all scorers with a game high seven points off of a
pair of goals and a nickel's worth of assists. Cefalu was the big
goal scorer for Dowling, burying a hat trick in each half.
Cox led the Lady Bobcats with six goals, improving her season
total to 32. Psillas chipped in with a pair of goals and a pair
assists while sophomore Abby White (Madisonville, TN) rounded out
the scoring with her fifth of the season.
Rachel Goldstein finished with four saves while Lady Bobcats
keeper Olivia Maurey (Plant City, FL) registered seven.
The Lady Bobcats will resume Conference Carolinas action next
Saturday, March 29th when they travel to Gaffney, SC to battle #2
Limestone College.
