Riverside, CA--The Lees-McRae mens' volleyball team ended a two
game winning streak Thursday afternoon when they fell 3-0 to
California Baptist University in Riverside, CA. With the win the
Lancers remain undefeated (6-0) at home 7-7 overall, while the
Bobcats now stand at 3-11.
In game one of the match the Bobcats broke a 14-14 tie with a
4-0 run to put them up 18-14. The Lancers responded with an 8-2
run of their own to regain the lead at 25-23. LMC battled by tying
the game at 25 all, before CBU, fueled by back-to-back kills by
Blair Penner, won 30-27.
The Bobcats headed back onto the court ready to play in game
two, leading the Lancers early, but despite having 16 kills and
hitting .344 for the game, were unable to ward off California
Baptist who took the game 30-27.
The Lancers took a 3-0 lead in game three and never relinguished
it, hitting a .324, while the Bobcats struggled, managing only to
thrown down 8 kills and hit a .077 for the final game. CBU
clinched the match with the 30-21 win.
The Bobcats were led by freshman Colin
Kelly (Orlando, FL) with a match-high 18 kills and six digs.
Shane
Holderby (Virginia Beach, VA) had 31 assists and five digs in
the contest.
Leading the way for the Lancers was Penner with a career high 11
kills and five blocks. Donald Baliaba also had 11 kills and four
service aces while setter Eric Plunkett dished out a match-high 47
assists.
The Bobcats will continue their California road trip tomorrow,
facing Hope International in Fullerton, CA at 1:00pm.
