WINTER PARK, FL - Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats freshman Desiree Cox
had a career afternoon Sunday but it was not enough as the Lady
Bobcats dropped a 20-11 contest to Bryant University in
non-conference women's lacrosse action. Cox had a career high nine
point performance to factor in on all but two of the Lady Bobcats
goals.
Bryant jumped out to an early 2-0 lead however the Lady Bobcats
had an answer with a pair from Cox to knot the score at two.
Bryant grabbed control after that going on a 6-0 run to take a
commanding 8-2 lead with 10:46 on the clock. Two more from Cox
ignited the Lady Bobcats offense as Ellie Psillas chipped in with
her seventh of the season, however Bryant would respond with three
goals in the final 1:14 of the first half to regain the
momentum.
Cox would score three of the first five goals in the second
half, however Bryant would score the other two and then follow up
with a 4-0 run for insurance to put the game away.
Cox would finish with nine points, setting a new career high
with eight goals. Defensively Cox also established a career high
nine ground balls in the game. Psillas rounded out the scoring for
the Lady Bobcats with her seventh and eighth goals of the season.
In the cage, Olivia Maurey registered a season high 15 saves.
The Lady Bobcats will return to the friendly confines of Tate
Field for seven of their final eight games. March 18th, the Lady
Bobcats will open their home schedule with a non-conference affair
with Dowling College. Game time is set 4:00pm.
