BANNER ELK, NC - The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats lost a hard fought
14-13 battle to St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Conference
Carolinas women's lacrosse action Tuesday at Tate Field. The Lady
Knights improve their record to 4-7 (2-5 Conference Carolinas)
while the Lady Bobcats fall to 0-10 (0-6).
Kelsey Binggeli opened the scoring for the visitors just under
two minutes into the game, however the lead would be short lived as
the Lady Bobcats Desiree Cox would bury a pair, the first just 13
seconds after Binggeli. Kerrie Brown would knot the score at two.
Abby White would restore the lead and Cox would complete the hat
trick early in the contest to give the home side a two goal lead,
the largest for either team throughout the game. A 3-0 run by the
Lady Knights would put the visitors back on top, 5-4 with just
under ten minutes to play. The Lady Bobcats would again answer
back quickly, as Ellie Psillas would score back to back goals, the
first just 22 seconds after the Lady Knights run, to regain the one
goal lead 6-5. Amelia Henson's first of the year extended the
Lees-McRae lead back to two, but a second 3-0 run by the Lady
Knights would see the Lady Bobcats fall behind one with 0:38
remaining in the half. Cox would score her fourth of the game with
just three seconds remaining on a great individual effort to lock
the score at eight as the teams headed to halftime.
The Lady Bobcats would build of the momentum of Cox' late first
half goal, scoring the first two of the second as Cloe Klaus and
Psillas found the back of the net. Alexis Goldman would get one
back, but Psillas' fourth of the game would restore the game with
22:08 remaining. The Lady Knights' third three goal run of the
game would give them their first lead of the second half at 12-11
and 11:26 on the clock. Just under three minutes later Cox' 40th
goal of the year and fifth of the game deadlocked the teams at 12
for the seventh tie of the game and 8:36 left to play. The teams
would play back and forth for three and a half minutes, with
Binggeli snapping the tie at 5:05. Courtney Ross would give the
visitors a two goal cushion with just under two minutes to play, in
what proved to be the game winner. Klaus would get one back for
the Lady Bobcats 18 seconds later but it was as close as the home
side would get as the Lady Knights were able hold on for their
second Conference Carolinas win of the season.
"I am extremely proud of the heart and character we showed
today," commented Lady Bobcats Head Coach Andrea Duffy.
"We battled hard, competed throughout the game from start to
finish."
Cox and Binggeli each buried five goals for the respective
teams, while the Knights' Brown also had a five point game
finishing with three goals and a pair of assists.
Lady Bobcats goalkeeper Olivia Maurey finished with 17 saves,
including four on free position attempts while Elise Moore
registered six saves in the Lady Knights net.
The Lady Bobcats will resume Conference Carolinas action
Thursday evening when they host Belmont Abbey, while the Lady
Knights host Greensboro College in non-conference action
Wednesday. The Lady Bobcats contest against Abbey is set for
6:00pm at Tate Field.
