CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College women's lacrosse team
(0-2, 0-2) fell to the Queens University of Charlotte Lady Royals
(1-0, 1-0) Friday night in a Conference Carolinas clash,19-12,
despite three goal efforts by freshmen Lexi King and Tiffany
Paris.
Paris, with three goals and one assist, tied with sophomore Desiree
Cox, who had four goals, for a team high in points with four. King
finished with three points on her three goals. Freshman Cheryse
Cox and junior Clair Shaw added one goal a piece for the Lady
Bobcats. Eleven of the 12 goals scored for the Lady Bobcats came
from freshmen and sophomores. Desiree Cox also led the team with
three ground balls and finished second with four draw controls;
Paris led the team with five draw controls.
King scored the first goal three minutes into the match, and after
a Queens goal, she added her second of the match to give Lees-McRae
a 2-1 lead on an assist from Paris.
The two goals by Desiree were answered by two Lady Royals goals to
tie the game at four, but a Paris goal gave the Lady Bobcats a 5-4
lead.
Queens answered with four goals over the next ten minutes to
take an 8-5 lead before King answered for the Lady Bobcats with
3:59 left in the half to make it 8-6. Queens found the back of the
net one more time before the half to make it 9-6 at the break.
After the Lady Royals notched the first two goals of the second
half to take an 11-6 lead, Shaw scored her first goal of the season
to make it 11-7.
Paris scored on a free position shot after two Queens goals with
20:35 left in the half to make it 13-8.
With the Lady Bobcats trailing 16-8, Paris notched her final goal
of the game on another free position shot with 12:25 remaining in
the game to make it 16-9.
Desiree added two goals following two Lady Royals' goals on a free
position shot and an unassisted goal to make it 18-11.
Cheryse Cox scored the final Lees-McRae goal to make it 19-12 and
give the game its final score.
Lees-McRae won the draw control battle, 20-13, but Queens had 22
ground balls compared to 11 for Lees-McRae.
The Lady Bobcats will travel to Spartanburg, S.C. Saturday to take
on Converse College. The game will pit former player against
former coach as Lees-McRae head coach Amanda Chase goes up against
her former college coach, Julie Redman, who now coaches the
Valkyries.
