RIVERSIDE, CALIF. - Chad Mercado recorded a match high 24 kills
to boost the Lees-McRae College Bobcats men's volleyball team to a
3-2 (27-30, 30-22, 22-30, 30-21, 15-11) win over St. Ambrose in
their first game on the West Coast.
St. Ambrose won the first set 30-27, but the two teams would trade
sets to tie the match at two and send it into a fifth and final
set.
In the fifth set, with the score tied at seven Ian Bryner recorded
a kill followed by a Mercado kill to give the Bobcats a 9-7 lead.
The Bobcats would hold the lead and extend it to four for the final
of 15-11 to give the team the five set win.
Mercado was the only player in the match with twenty plus kills.
Ryan Black was the only other Bobcat in double digit kills with 11
kills on 25 attempts and one error for .400 hitting percentage.
Juan Rameriz dished out 45 assists and recorded a team high 22
digs. Robert Ritchie picked up 20 digs during the match. Charles
Macias led the team with two service aces, and Mercado had a game
high four and a half blocks.
The Bobcats outblocked St. Ambrose 13.5 to 9.
Lees-McRae's next match will be Tuesday, March 17th at California
Baptist.
