BANNER ELK, N.C. - Lees-McRae's women's lacrosse team dominated
Saturday's home opener against Conference Carolinas foe Erskine
College defeating them 21-3 in a match that saw all Lady Bobcats
but goalkeeper Martha Peacock registered a goal.
The Lady Bobcats rampage began at the 27:39 mark when freshman
Tiffany Paris launched the first ball into the goal, pacing the
Lady Bobcats on a 9-0 run.
In the next three minutes the squad added three more tallies on
goals by sophomore Lauren Martin, Paris, and freshman Cheryse
Cox.
Junior Clair Shaw assisted on two of those goals before scoring
an unassisted goal of her own at the 23:38 minute mark to make it
5-0 Lees-McRae.
Another junior, Julia Campbell, continued the scoring run for
the Lady Bobcats when she sent the ball past the goalkeeper for her
first goal of the game at 22:43. Campbell would finish the game
with five points on two goals and three assists.
Freshman Lexi King added another tally to make the score 7-0
before the Lady Fleet took a time out.
The Lady Bobcats continued their attack with another score by
Paris and one by Lauren Ochoa before Erskine got on the board with
an unassisted goal by Ruth Dye to make the score 9-1.
Lees-McRae finished the half on a 6-0 run with Ochoa and Cheryse
Cox adding one apiece, Paris adding two for a total of five goals
in the first half, and Desiree Cox and Abby White gaining their
first scores of the game.
The Lady Bobcats held a 15-1 lead at the half.
After the intermission, the teams returned to the rain-slickened
field only to see Lees-McRae extend the lead to 16-1 on a goal by
Campbell.
Dye answered for the Lady Fleet, scoring her second goal of the
contest at the 23:55 mark.
Freshman Anna DeLuke and Martin added extra cushion to the lead
to make the score 18-2, before Erskine's Erin Conner scored from
the hash at 12:36 to make the score 18-3.
After another timeout by Erskine, Lees-McRae finished the game
on a 3-0 run with scores by senior Susan Dael, rookie Kelly
Mendson, and Martin.
The Lady Bobcats are 4-3 overall and 2-3 in conference, while
the Lady Fleet falls to 0-10 overall and 0-9 in conference
play.
Lees-McRae resumes play Sunday afternoon when they host Pfeiffer
University in another Conference Carolinas match. The game is set
to begin at 2:00 p.m.
