HIGH POINT, N.C.- Lees-McRae College's Travis VanHoy (13-5
overall, 7-0 conf.) has been selected as the NCAA Division II
Conference Carolinas men's tennis Player of the Week during week
number eight in the 2009 season.
The sophomore came up clutch for the Lees-McRae College men's
tennis team this week. VanHoy delivered the game clinching point
as the No. 39 Bobcats pulled their fifth upset of the season over
Conference Carolinas' No.31 Limestone College Saints.
In the match, VanHoy and partner Shawn Sumner won their doubles
match 8-2 to give the Bobcats a 2-1 lead heading into singles
play.
After battling through weather delays, VanHoy clinched the match
with his 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win at the four position.
In the teams final match of the week, VanHoy contributed with an
8-4 win in doubles and a 6-4, 4-6 (10-6) win in singles as the
Bobcats blanked No. 36 Tusculum for the sixth upset of the
season.
With his play this week, VanHoy has guaranteed the Bobcats at least
a share of the Conference Carolinas regular season title with a 7-0
conference record. It will be the team's first title since
2001.
