MILLEDGEVILLE, GA - The Lees-McRae College Bobcats men's tennis
team won their opening round match, 5-3, in the Southeast Regional
of the NCAA Tournament over Limestone College Thursday afternoon at
the Centennial Center Tennis Facility on the campus of Georgia
College and State University.
The Bobcats fell behind after doubles 2-1. The doubles
combination of Shaun Sumner and Travis VanHoy scored the team's
double point with an 8-4 win at their number two position.
Alek Mojski scored the Bobcats first singles point of the day with
a 7-5, 6-0 win at his number two singles position to tie the match
at two.
Conference Carolinas Player of the Year, Nandor Solymosi, followed
with a straight set, 6-2, 6-1, win at his number one singles
position to give the Bobcats the 3-2 lead.
After Limestone tied the match, Shaun Sumner rallied from being
down a set to earn a 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 win at his number three singles
position to give the Bobcats a 4-3 lead.
Steve Karendal sealed the match with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win at his
number six position to advance the Bobcats and earn the 5-3
win.
The Bobcats now advance to play host and top seeded Georgia College
and State University Friday, May 8th at 10:00 a.m. in the
semifinals.
