MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball
team's rally fell short as they overcame a 2-0 deficit, but loss
3-2 (30-28, 30-26, 30-26, 30-26, 15-12) to Stevens Institute of
Technology Saturday afternoon in a nonconference match.
The Bobcats fell behind early 30-28 and 30-26, but rallied to
win sets three and four 30-26 and 30-26 to force a fifth and final
set. In set five, the Bobcats fell behind 4-1, but rallied again
to tie the match at 11. However, Stevens would claim outscore the
Bobcats 4-1 to win to claim the 15-12 match win.
Leading the way for the Bobcats, was Chad Mercado with a
career-high 34 kills, .292 hitting percentage and five total
blocks. Steven Bunning followed with 13 kills, and Raphael Vieira
tallied 11 kills. Juan Ramirez handed out 57 assists in the
match. Three Bobcats were in double-digit digs with Kyle Gauger
leading the way with 17 digs, and Vieira and Justy Tevid had 13
digs.
Lees-McRae will return to the hardwood on April 7th on the road
against Pfeiffer.
