SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 3, 2010) - The Rollins College Tars
defeated the Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats, 21-2 at Harper Abney
Field on the campus of Converse College Saturday afternoon.
Rollins advances to an overall mark of 7-4, while the Bobcats
drop to 1-7 overall on the season.
Rollins' Cat Kelley led the game with five goals and an assist.
Two more Tars notched six points on the day as Marissa Giannerini
netted four goals and two assists, and Erica Pagliarulo notched
three goals and a game-high three assists.
Five more Tars rounded out the goal count as Sarah Ann Showell
fired four shots between the pipes, Liz Connelly ripped two, and
Katy Tyszko, Anna Townsend, and Sophie Townsend scored one
apiece.
Dishing out assists behind Pagliarulo and Giannerini were
Connelly and Tyszko with two each, and Tori Snow with one.
Snow led the game with four draw controls and three ground
balls, both game-highs, while also causing two turnovers. Mallory
Surpless earned three ground balls and played a solid game on
offense, while Tricia Grant went two and two on ground balls and
draw controls as the Tars controlled the pace of the game in all
areas of the field.
Rollins restrained the Bobcats on the clear, as LMC was
successful on only 7-of-20 attempts. The Tars used their limited
transitions wisely as they went a perfect 5-for-5 from their
defensive to offensive end.
Rollins goalie Alyssa Emens collected one save on the afternoon
after seeing only three shots on cage. Her counterpart, Peacock,
set aside 10 shots after facing a total of 39 shots and 31 shots on
frame.
Lees-McRae saw scoring efforts from Lauren Martin and Anna
DeLuke, with their first goal from Martin with just seconds left in
the first half to put the score at 13-1 entering into the break.
DeLuke netted the Bobcats' final goal of the contest with 25:15
remaining in the game, but Rollins already held a 12 goal
advantage, and extended their lead to 19 by the end of the
game.
