PHOENIX, Ariz. --- Chad Mercado (Orlando, Fla.)
recorded a pair of double-digit kill totals as the Lees-McRae
College men's volleyball team split its two Friday matches on the
campus of Grand Canyon University, sweeping Carthage College before
falling to Grand Canyon in straight sets.
Lees-McRae (4-3) fell to Grand Canyon (4-7) in the first match
by scores of 21-25, 16-25, and 22-25, before sweeping Carthage
(2-6) by scores of 25-18, 25-17, and 25-16. The Bobcats posted a
superb .387 attack percentage against Carthage, while hitting at a
.235 clip against Grand Canyon.
Mercado paced the Bobcats with 24 kills on the day, including a
match-high 14 kills against Grand Canyon. The senior outside hitter
posted a combined .375 attack percentage in LMC's two matches,
while Matt Harpenau (Cincinnati, Ohio), Chris Flood (Louisville,
Ky.), and Edmund Walkley (Glenbrook, Australia) posted 12, 11, and
10 kills, respectively. Randy Ramirez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) paced
the Bobcats with a combined 56 assists, wihle Harpenau and John
Lucas (Cincinnati, Ohio) each posted six blocks.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Sunday when the Bobcats take
on Grand Canyon at 9:45 a.m., followed by a 12:15 p.m. matchup with
Carthage on the GCU campus.
