BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Katie Farrell scored a
game- and season-high nine goals, and Sarah Orr added eight assists
to lead the No. 4 Limestone College women's lacrosse team to a 22-4
win over Lees-McRae College on Tuesday afternoon in Conference
Carolinas play.
Limestone (11-0, 5-0 CC) outshot the Bobcats (2-7, 0-4 CC) by a
32-10 margin, while forcing 18 turnovers and converting each of its
12 clear attempts on the afternoon. Farrell paced the Saints with
nine goals, while Kaitlyn Liccion and Jessica Aquanno added five
and three tallies, respectively. Orr also tallied a season-high
eight assists, as Farrell and Casey Wilcox each added a pair of
helpers. Rashelle McLellan played the first 18 minutes in between
the pipes for the Saints, making one save to pick up the win.
Emily Guenthner (Nampa, Idaho) paced the Bobcats with her third
fourth hat trick in the last five games, while Olivia Gudewich
(Frederick, Md.) added a goal of her own. Amanda Harkness (Johnson
City, N.Y.) chipped in an assist for Lees-McRae, as Martha Peacock
(Mooresville, N.C.) started and played the full 60 minutes between
the pipes for the Bobcats, making six saves. Guenthner also added a
game-high five ground balls for the Bobcats.
Limestone took control early, opening the game with six goals in
the first eight minutes of play to set the tone. The Bobcats got on
the board with 4:38 left in the first half when Guenthner found the
back of the net for her first of the game to cap the period's
scoring.
The sophomore doubled her total with the opening score of the
second half, tallying her 15th goal of the season off a perfect
pass from Harkness at the 28:19 mark. Limestone answered with a
pair of goals to counter Guenthner's tallies before the Nampa,
Idaho native responded, scoring her third of the game at the 24:15
mark. Gudewich then capped the Bobcats' scoring at the 11:12 mark
following a trio of tallies by the Saints before Limestone netted
the final three goals of the contest to conclude the afternoon.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Thursday when the Bobcats host
Pfeiffer University in a conference matchup at 4 p.m. on Tate
Field.
