DUE WEST, S.C. --- The Lees-McRae College men's
tennis team registered a hard-fought 8-1 victory over Erskine
College in Conference Carolinas play on Saturday afternoon,
sweeping doubles action and winning the first three singles
flights.
Lees-McRae's (1-3, 1-0 CC) duo of Pedro De Sousa Nunes
(Florianopolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil) and Skylar Warren
(Asheville, N.C.) opened the day with an 8-3 victory over Erskine's
(2-4, 2-2 CC) pairing of Angelo Ciarrocchi and Vincent Chauvette.
Alexander Hayes (Mexico City, Mexico) and Marcelo Tatai (Sao Paulo,
Brazil) posted an 8-5 win over Jack West and Connor Roy, before
Graham Battle (Boone, N.C.) and Hang Lak Choi (Newton, N.C.)
defeated James Hoatson and Coleman Welch by a tally of 8-5.
Nunes kicked off singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win against
Chauvette, before Hayes sealed the overall victory for the Bobcats
with a hard-fought 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) victory against West.
Warren defeated Hoatson, 6-3, 6-3, in the third singles flight, as
Roy registered a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) win over Battle at No. 4.
Tatai posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Robert Clarke at No. 5 singles,
before Choi defeated Aaron Twitty, 6-1, 6-7 (2-10), 1-0 (10-5) to
close out the day.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Sunday when the Bobcats
travel to Asheville, N.C. to take on UNC Asheville at 3 p.m.
