GAFFNEY, S.C. --- The Limestone College men's
tennis team swept doubles play and won five of six singles matches
play en route to an 8-1 victory over Lees-McRae College in
Conference Carolinas play on Thursday afternoon.
Limestone's (15-5, 10-0 CC) tandem of Mike Stephenson and Rafael
Ferla kicked off the afternoon with an 8-3 win against Lees-McRae's
(2-11, 2-6 CC) duo of Alexander Hayes (Mexico City, Mexico) and
Skylar Warren (Asheville, N.C.), before Carlos Yanes and Lucas
Guinski defeated Pedro De Sousa Nunes (Florianopolis, Santa
Catarina, Brazil) and Marcelo Tatai (Sao Paulo, Brazil), 8-2.
Abraham Lascari Diaz and Daniel Lopez notched an 8-6 victory
against Graham Battle (Boone, N.C.) and Hang Lak Choi (Newton,
N.C.), 8-6 in the third doubles flight.
Yanes opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Nunes to
give the Saints a 4-0 advantage, as Stephenson defeated Hayes, 6-2,
6-3 to clinch at No. 2 to clinch the victory for Limestone. Ferla
posted a 6-2, 6-2 win against Warren, as Guinski defeated Tatai,
6-0, 6-1. After Lopez won his sixth-flight match against Choi, 6-0,
6-1, Battle rallied for a hard-fought 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 victory over
Diaz.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Friday when the Bobcats host
Pfeiffer University in conference play at 2 p.m.
