SAINT CHARLES, Mo. --- The Lindenwood
University women's lacrosse team rallied from an early deficit to
outscore Lees-McRae College by a 10-3 margin in the first half en
route to a 17-4 victory in non-conference play on Sunday
afternoon.
Lindenwood (8-12) outshot Lees-McRae (1-10) by a 33-9 margin,
including a 17-5 advantage in the first half, as the Lions edged
the Bobcats by a 26-18 stretch in ground balls. The Lions won
12-of-23 draw controls, while converting 12-of-15 clear
attempts.
Olivia Gudewich (Frederick, Md.) paced the Bobcats with three
goals, as Nicole Nixon (Charlotte, N.C.) also found the back of the
net. Gudewich and Katelin Rooney (Naples, Fla.) recorded four and
three draw controls, respectively, as Jessica Travers (Asheville,
N.C.) scoped up a game-high six ground balls and made seven saves
between the pipes.
Lexi Crusha led the way for Lindenwood with one goal and a
game-high eight assists, as Kara Cashen tallied a contest-best four
goals. Lindsey Palmer added two goals and three assists, as
Justiene Groothuis, Melissa Menchella, and Meghan Chase each
tallied a pair of goals. Brittany Frankenfeld posted four saves
between the pipes, while Kathyrn St. George and Taylor Mayeda each
controlled four draws.
Nixon got the Bobcats on the board first, scoring her second
goal of the season four and a half minutes into the contest before
Lindenwood responded with a 10-goal surge, taking a 10-1 advantage
on back-to-back strikes by Chase with five minutes to go in the
first half. Gudewich would answer with a pair of goals to trim the
margin to 10-3 heading into the intermission.
The Lions countered with two goals to open the second half,
stretching the margin to 12-3 before Gudewich poured in her third
strike of the afternoon to trim the lead to 12-4 at the 20:22 mark.
Lindenwood would close out the game with five goals to equal the
final margin of 17-4.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Friday, April 13 when the
Bobcats host Belmont Abbey College in Conference Carolinas play to
conclude the regular season. The Bobcats will honor their 2012
senior class prior to a 7 p.m. start on Tate Field.
