Lions sweep Bobcats at Quincy Crossover

QUINCY, Ill. --- The Lindenwood University men's volleyball team tallied 37 kills and posted a .241 hitting percentage en route to a straight-set sweep of Lees-McRae College in non-conference play on Friday evening at the Quincy University Crossover.

Lindenwood (15-6) won the match by scores of 25-17, 25-19, and 25-19, holding Lees-McRae (13-7) to 19 kills and 16 digs, while digging out 28 Bobcat attacks and recording seven blocks.

Jose Ribas (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) paced the Bobcats with eight kills, as Matt Harpenau (Cincinnati, Ohio) tallied four blocks (one solo, three assists). Sam Sheers (Centerville, Ohio) added 15 assists while Kevin Morrison (Norfolk, Va.) chipped in three block assists.

Colin Hackworth led the way for Lindenwood with a match-high 14 kills, as Scott Siwicki and Michael Adams added eight and seven smashes, respectively. David Poole recorded a match-high 12 digs, while Tim Schmidt dished out a contest-best 32 assists.

Lindenwood got off to a strong start in the first set, taking an early 13-7 lead before the Bobcats responded with a 6-2 spurt, closing the gap to 15-13 following a kill by Sheers. The Lions would answer with a 10-4 run, claiming a 1-0 advantage in the match on a Bobcat miscue.

The second set proved to be a tightly contested affair, with Lindenwood snatching an early 14-11 lead on a kill by Kyle Overby before Lees-McRae closed the gap to 19-18 following a Ribas smash. Lindenwood would respond, taking the set and a commanding 2-0 lead in the match on a kill by Siwicki.

The Bobcats answered early in the third, opening a narrow 9-8 advantage on a smash by Harpenau before Lindenwood responded with a 14-4 surge, claiming a 22-13 lead following a block by Adams and Logan Jarus. Adams and Jarus then capped both the set and the match with a tandem block.

Lees-McRae returns to the court on Saturday at the Quincy Crossover when the Bobcats take on Park University at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT, followed by a 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT showdown with host Quincy University.
