BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Juniors Mark Shayka and John Sobel combined for 16 kills while the Lees-McRae men's volleyball team fell to Coker, 18-25, 23-25, 17-25, Friday evening at Williams Gym in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Cobras (13-7) amassed 20 block assists while Aleksa Bijelic had 11 assists. The Bobcats (1-20) used a 26-assist effort from senior Drew Blecher (York, Pa.).
Shayka (Hamilton, Va.) turned in a pair of kills while LMC trailed by four, 12-8.
The Cobras produced an 11-5 run to stretch the lead to 10, 23-13.
LMC responded with a 4-0 run to trim the deficit to six, but Coker's Luke Grupe delivered a kill to end the opening set.
The visitors grabbed an 11-7 lead following a pair of attack errors.
The Bobcats clawed their way back into it with a 13-8 run to grab a 20-18 lead.
During the stretch, there were five service errors between both teams.
LMC clung to a 22-21 lead following a Hector Serviat (Miami, Fla.) kill.
Coker clamped down and concluded the set on a 4-2 run.
The third set remained tight most while a pair of Shayka kills made it 18-16 in Coker's favor.
The Cobras produced a 7-1 run to end the contest.
Sobel (Holbrook, N.Y.) produced seven kills while Serviat and Jack Frank (Tampa, Fla.) chipped in with five apiece.
LMC welcomes Limestone Saturday, April 2 at 3 p.m. for a Conference Carolinas match in Williams Gymnasium.
