Men's Tennis Clinches Post Season Berth in Dominating Fashion, 7-2

BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae men's tennis team won five of six in singles action while throttling Erskine, 7-2, in a Conference Carolinas match Saturday afternoon at the LMC Tennis Courts in Banner Elk, N.C.

The Bobcats won their second consecutive match and improved to 2-13, 2-8 CC while the Flying Fleet fell to 1-16, 1-8.

The duo of Gabriel Muniz (Soao, Brazil) and Joao Araujo (Curitiba, Brazil) outlasted Fabricio Lanza and Alan Pearce, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles.

Freshman Cole Douglas-Fields (Asheville, N.C.) and Thomas Deeley (Oxford, England) swiped an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles.

Junior Garrett Lakey (North Wilkesboro, N.C.) defeated Andre Andre by identical 6-3 scores in No. 4 singles play.

Douglas-Fields didn't lose a game at No. 6 singles to Mateo Laredo.

Deeley withstood a strong challenge from Eddy Gullino, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 5 singles.

Araujo earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Ritwik Bhriguvanshi in No. 1 singles action.

Muniz thwarted Lanza, 6-2, 6-4, in No. 2 singles play.

With the win, LMC secures a spot in the Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Tournament and will play a semifinal contest Friday, April 29 at 12 p.m. in Sumter, S.C.
