FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team closed out a two-match road swing with a 3-2 (24-26, 25-27, 25-21, 25-16, 16-14) victory over Emmanuel (GA) College Saturday afternoon. It marked the first time since 2013 that the Bobcats have come from two sets down to win.
The Bobcats started the match hitting at a .448 clip against the Lions. Despite the hot-hitting by the Bobcats, the Lions picked up a 26-24 win over LMC in the opening set. LMC's offense cooled off considerably in the second hitting at just .033 in 30 attempts. Emmanuel took full advantage of LMC's struggles offensively and won the second set as well, 27-25.
Lees-McRae went on to finish off the comeback Saturday winning the last three sets by a combined 15 points. It was LMC's first five-set victory since it defeated North Greenville in five on March 4, 2014.
Senior John Sobel led LMC with 15 kills against the Lions, while Wes Rogman added 10 kills of his own. Setting up Sobel, Rogman and the rest of the Bobcat attackers most of time was Reto Pfund who dished out 43 assists.
Defensively, Keenan Freitas posted a season-high 19 digs. With his 19 digs Saturday, Freitas now has 500 digs for his collegiate career at Lees-McRae.
Next Up: The Bobcats, now 4-6 overall and 2-3 in league play, will begin a four-match home stand beginning Friday when they host Barton in Williams Gymnasium. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
