Multiple records fall as Track and Field posts solid outing at Lenoir-Rhyne Track and Field Classic

RESULTS

HICKORY, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College men's and women's track and field teams combined to break three school records and post several other quality finishes at the Lenoir-Rhyne Track and Field Classic on Saturday (Apr. 6).

Men - Cooper Abernathy placed 11th in the hammer throw with a throw of 39.20 meters, while Blake Radder also finished 19th in the event at 30.89 meters. Keith Holmes Jr. placed 20th in the long jump at 5.93 meters, while Logan Styers also finished 24th at 5.26 meters. Abernathy would finish sixth in the javelin throw at 45.40 meters, while Radder finished 11th (39.58 meters) and Alex Heck (38.68 meters) finished 13th. Abernathy would continue his stellar day in the discus throw, placing eighth and breaking the school outdoor record with a throw of 39.95 meters. The previous record of 38.93 meters was held by Ryan Trask, who set the mark back on Mar. 22, 2013 at the HPU Vert Klassie Meeting. Radder also finished 31st in the discus event with a throw of 27.09 meters. Anton Ledell finished fifth in the high jump at 1.90 meters, while Jason Saintizaire finished in a log-jam tie also with a height of 1.90 meters. Abernathy would log a 13th-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 12.33 meters, while Radder finished 18th (10.71 meters) and Heck also finished 20th (10.17 meters). Tristin Bertie led the way in the 1,500-meter run with an eighth-place finish in 4:09.78, while Andrew Garrett Ybarra finished 14th in 4:15.44. Joshua Hall finished 18th in 4:19.93 as the other Bobcat in the event. Holmes (53.81 seconds) and Kerry Richardson (53.83 seconds) would finish back-to-back in the 400-meter dash, taking 22nd and 23rd respectively. Styers was the only Bobcat in the 100-meter dash, finishing 33rd in 12.49 seconds. Ybarra led the way in the 800-meter dash with a seventh-place finish in 2:01.41, while Joshua Hall finished 12th in 2:02.69. Ledell posted a 14th-place finish in the event in 2:03.07, while Bertie also finished 20th in 2:07.53. Logan Welton posted an 18th-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:08.63. Richardson would place 28th in the 200-meter dash in 23.80 seconds, while Holmes (24.43 seconds) and Saintizaire (24.58 seconds) would finish 35th and 36th respectively. Nolan Capps took 14th in the 5,000-meter run in 17:11.34, while Aiden Hall finished 17th in 17:37.55. Brett Page also finished 22nd in the event in 18:52.28. The quartet of Saintizaire, Joshua Hall, Ledell and Ybarra finished fourth in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:28.17, setting a season-best mark by four seconds in the event.

Women - Bayle Wood began the day breaking the school outdoor record in the hammer throw, with a mark of 40.81 meters good for a seventh-place finish. The previous record of 38.14 meters was held by Crystal Bass, who set the mark back on Mar. 25, 2011 in the Asics Classic. Mya Roberts also finished 13th in the hammer throw with a mark of 33.64. Millie McCoy would finish seventh in the long jump with a mark of 4.89 meters, while Mikali Smith (4.41 meters) and Jessica Reeves would finish 13th and 14th respectively. Wood also won the javelin throw event with a throw of 37.17 meters as the lone Bobcat in the event. Wood continued her solid day with a sixth-place finish in the discus throw (37.02 meters), while Halie Thompson also finished 15th in the event (29.79 meters). Reeves led the way in the high jump with a mark of 1.40 meters, while Smith finished 17th at 1.35 meters. Reeves also finished 13th in the triple jump with a mark of 9.13 meters. Sariah Dempaire-Salomon finished eighth in the shot put with a throw of 11.57 meters, while Wood finished 18th at 9.49 meters. Roberts also finished 20th with a throw of 9.00 meters. Madison Cantrell (3.00 meters) and Megan Guess (2.85 meters) finished fifth and sixth respectively in the pole vault. Sarah Bowman led the way in the 1,500-meter run with a 15th-place finish in 5:32.63, while Jordyn Halvorsen finished 19th in 5:47.28. Maegan Prettyman (5:53.91) and Delaney Colangelo (6:13.47) finished 22nd and 23rd respectively in the event. Brittney Augustin began her day with a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.64 seconds. McCoy would go on to finish 16th in the 400-meter dash in 1:03.68. Guess would finish 18th in the 100-meter dash in 13.96 seconds as the only Bobcat in the event. Bowman led the way in the 800-meter dash finishing in 18th in 2:44.96, while Halvorsen (2:55.10) and Katherine Sandoval (2:55.39) finished 20th and 21st respectively. Prettyman (2:58.28) and Kaela Kelly (2:58.52) also finished 23rd and 24th respectively in the event. Augustin posted a win in the 400-meter hurdles, breaking the school outdoor record with a time of 1:02.81, just missing a national qualifying mark. The previous record belonged to Meagan Thornton, who ran the event in 1:03.32 back on Mar. 24, 2012 at the High Point Invitational. McCoy also finished 26th in the 200-meter dash in 27.78 seconds as the lone Bobcat in the event.

Up Next - The teams are back in action next weekend (Apr. 12-13) at the Benyon Sports Catamount Classic, hosted by Western Carolina University.
