WILSON, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team dropped a three-set decision (25-12, 25-17, 25-12) on the road at Barton College Friday night in Conference Carolinas action. The loss moves Lees-McRae's record to 2-10 overall and 1-5 in conference action.
1ST Set – The opening set of Friday's match was decided on a pair of sizable runs by Barton. The Bulldogs began the frame by scoring the first six points. Lees-McRae was able to get within four before Barton went on a 9-0 run to extend its lead to 19-6. Facing a fairly large deficit, the Bobcats were able to close the gap somewhat but ultimately fell in the first by a score of 25-12.
2nd Set – After attacking at a .538 clip in the first set, the Bulldog offense cooled off considerable in the second with their attack percentage coming in at .211. Unfortunately, the Bobcat offense struggled to find rhythm as they committed more errors than kills in the frame. With the miscues by Lees-McRae building up, Barton was able to still take the second set, 25-17.
3rd Set – Much like in the first set, the Bobcats had trouble getting the serve back from the Bulldogs at times. Barton went on a 5-0 run to start the third and went on another 5-0 streak later in the frame. The two bursts of offense were enough to put the Bobcats behind far enough that they could not make a comeback falling, 25-12.
Next Up – Lees-McRae will return to action on Saturday with a pair of matches on tap. First, the Bobcats will take on Mount Olive at noon before facing off against St. Francis Brooklyn at 2 p.m.
