BELMONT, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team dropped a three-set decision on the road at Belmont Abbey Wednesday evening in Conference Carolinas action. The Bobcats see their record drop to 3-12 overall and 1-7 in league play with the loss.
Set 1 – The difference in the opening set on Wednesday was a large run put together by the Crusaders. With Belmont Abbey holding a slim 6-4 lead, it rattled off a 10-2 run against the Bobcats to turn the score into 16-6. Credit the Bobcats as they clawed back into the set, but it proved too large of a deficit to overcome as they fell, 25-18.
Set 2 – Belmont Abbey and Lees-McRae returned for the second set and the Crusaders seemingly could do no wrong. As a team, Belmont Abbey collected eight kills on 12 attacks with no errors for a .667 attack percentage. The Crusaders used a combination of their hot-hitting and miscues from Lees-McRae to take the second set as well, 25-12.
Set 3- In what turned out to be the final set of the match, the Bobcats started well. After an ace from Michael Marsans made it 5-4 Bobcats, Belmont Abbey rattled off six straight points to vault ahead. The Crusaders would grow their advantage to as many as eight points in the third before eventually finishing off the frame and match with a 25-19 set victory.
Next Up – The Bobcats are scheduled to be back in action on March 13 when they host Urbana in a non-conference match. That match is set for a 7 p.m. first serve from Williams Gymnasium.
