Betzer Takes Home Title in Women's 10,000 Meters as Lees-McRae Track & Field Finish Strong at Conference Carolinas Championships

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.
 – Deanna Betzer claimed the Women's 10,000 Meters in a time of 39:36.57 as the Lees-McRae men's and women's track & field teams collected five podium finishes over the two-day event at the 2023 Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

MEN'S NOTABLES:
  • Josh Gillis collected a third-place finish in the 800-meter run after qualifying with a time of 1:56.16. The freshman from Casselberry, Florida earned a time of 1:55.41 in the finals for the bronze medal.
  • Christian Bargaineer joined Gillis on the podium with a third place in the 110 Meter Hurdles after clocking in a time of 15.00 seconds on Saturday afternoon.
  • Joshua Ehresman had the fifth-best mark in the Men's Shot Put with a throw of 13.60 meters for the Bobcats.
  • Brennen Pierce placed 10th in the 1,500 Meters with a time of 4:10.85.
  • Isaac Reyna led a strong pack of Bobcats in the 5,000 Meters with a time of 15:41.98 and took ninth in the event. Colin Henry followed in 11th with a time of 15:56.18 and Max Geckler checked in at 16:06.46, which placed him 13th.
  • Geckler tallied a seventh-place finish in the 10,000 Meters on Friday night with a time of 33:26.29.
  • The Bobcat men finished in eighth place overall with 32 total points in the two-day meet.

WOMEN'S NOTABLES:
  • Betzer recorded the victory in the 10,000 Meters on Friday night after powering past the field in a time of 39:36.57.
  • Betzer also finished her 2023 season with a third-place finish in the 5,000 Meters after a time of 19:15.76.
  • Jocelyn Walker registered third place in the Pole Vault with a clearance of 2.84 meters and Lora Dillon placed seventh in the Triple Jump with a mark of 11.15 meters in the field events.
  • Campbell Dille set the school record in the 800 Meters on Saturday with a time of 2:24.79 and Maddie Quinn followed in seventh with a time of 2:26.78.
  • The Lees-McRae women's track & field team tied for seventh in the overall standings with 31 total points.
