The Lees-McRae dance team is directed by Victoria Bowman, a Florida native and a 20-year veteran of the dance industry. She has led programs in the high school and all-star dance markets as well as served as the Director of Operations for PTC Productions, an affiliate of Broadway Dance Center out of New York City.
A former Varsity brand representative as well as a certified competition judge, Victoria’s range of exposure and experience throughout her tenure has served her well in growing this program. Now in her 3rd season as head coach, the team has been able to expand their reach on campus as well as into the broader community. The team actively supports multiple athletics programs including women's soccer and women's volleyball in the Fall as well as men's and women's basketball in the Winter. The team has also just completed its 3rd semester of Spirit classes in partnership with the Avery County YMCA which are recreational dance classes for students ranging from Kindergarten to 6th grade. Commitment to the community is a cornerstone of the foundation of the program.
Victoria and her family are embedded into the fabric of the High-country community with two locations of her family-owned manufacturing company located in both Newland and Lenoir. She also currently serves the community as the Chair of the Avery County Chamber of Commerce Board, Chair of the Woolly Worm Festival, a member of the Avery County Young Professionals and is active in the Banner Elk Elementary PTO. Victoria, her husband Jon, and their two boys Hunter and Wyatt love to spend their free time outdoors in nature or on any of the various courts/fields that youth sports take them to.
