The Tornows have been supporters of the Lees-McRae College athletic department for over 20 years. They are often seen sitting courtside at basketball and volleyball games on the court named in their honor.
Their contributions over the years, in addition to the McNair and Debi Tornow Court in the Williams Physical Education Center, have included hosting the annual Christmas dinner for the athletic department, buying team meals, helping with transportation, and supporting the coaches and staff.
"The influence Mac and Debi have had on so many young people behind the scenes here at Lees-McRae College is incredible. Honoring them in this manner is the right way to say thank you for their generosity over the years to make our athletic department better," said McPhail.
McNair joined the Board of Trustees in 2012. After serving the as Vice-Chair for several years, Tornow assumed the position of Chairman and led the presidential search bringing Lee King to Lees-McRae College. He continues to practice law in Banner Elk and Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
McNair and Debi have a permanent home on Beech Mountain where they spend quality time with their four children and five grandchildren. They are both actively involved with the Banner Elk Presbyterian Church.
